If you don’t water your cactus, it will not receive the necessary levels of hydration to survive. This can lead to symptoms like yellowing leaves and shriveling stems as the plant attempts to conserve its existing moisture. This can eventually lead to root rot and leaf drop, which leads to death for most species of cacti.
To keep your cactus in good health, water it once or twice a week, depending on the season and size of the plant. Monitor the soil for dampness – if it’s dry at least an inch below the surface, it’s time to give your cactus a drink. Allow any excess water to drain away before discarding it, so any remaining nutrients are reabsorbed by the plant roots.
Cacti are tough plants. They can withstand long periods of drought and still thrive. And with regular watering and proper care, they will live longer – giving you years of enjoyment alongside their blooms and beauty!
