How Do You Fertilize Grass Naturally

Spread grass clippings over your lawn after mowing. The natural nitrogen found in blades of grass will add needed nutrients to the soil below. Grass clippings also contain small amounts of phosphorous and potassium.

Organic sources like compost provide vital nutrients for maintaining a lush, healthy lawn. Compost has naturally occurring levels of both macro and micronutrients like nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium and iron which are essential to fertilize the soil and promote healthy growth.

Organic mulches such as straw or hay can be layered around trees and beds to reduce weeds, helping retain moisture while adding slow-release nutrition over time.

Natural products like compost tea are water-soluble options that mix with soil to create a balanced ecosystem of beneficial microorganisms specifically intended to fertilize the landscaping.

Adding banana peels directly or soaking them in water and then sprinkling on the ground provides extra phosphorus-rich fertilizer for greater root health in short order. Citrus peels, eggshells and coffee grounds all provide additional sustenance and help keep plants growing strong.

Finally, rotating your turf grass species can also help optimize nutrient levels depending location as some varieties are better suited to certain climates than others are; hybridizing may be effective too by crossing two varieties together before planting out your lawn with new strain variants.
